The Galaxy S 2 is Samsung's latest smartphone and follows in the footsteps of their previous flagship model the Galaxy S. The original Galaxy S won a lot of praise from consumers and critics alike as it was one of those rare smartphones that seems to just tick all the right boxes. Even several months from its release and with this new sequel on its way to phone stores, the original Galaxy S still remains one of the most sought after handsets in the mobile phone market. It would have been easy for Samsung to just ride on the success of the original by producing a slight rehash at a higher price, but this is most certainly not what they have done. The phone has been improved upon in just about every way imaginable and has successfully incorporated many of today's most cutting edge phone technologies. Although it is not the first such phone to see release, the Galaxy S 2 is one of the many new handsets that are to enjoy dual core processing power. The significance of this cannot be underestimated as it will make the Galaxy S 2 twice as powerful as the original and all other leading handsets from 2010 for that matter. The phone will also come with 1GB RAM so that far more intensive games and apps can now be enjoyed on the Galaxy S 2. The Galaxy S 2 runs on Google's latest version of Android, Gingerbread. This comes with optional support for Near Field Communications (NFC) allowing you to get much more functionality out of your phone. As well as featuring an accelerometer, Samsung have also thrown in a gyro sensor to provide fully 3 dimensional controls. One thing that is quite noticeable about the new Galaxy phone is that despite all the high powered hardware it contains, and despite the huge 4.3" Super AMOLED Plus screen that is unrivalled in picture quality, the phone is also one of the thinnest smartphones to ever be released, beating the iPhone 4 by almost a millimetre. While a millimetre may not sound like much of a difference, the decrease in thickness is most certainly noticeable when holding the phone in your hands. As mentioned, the Galaxy S 2 comes with a Super AMOLED Plus display that is a step up from the original's highly acclaimed Super AMOLED screen. While the latter is currently one of the highest quality screens that can be found on a smartphone this is all set to change with the new Galaxy handset which will offer even more vividness and vibrancy than its predecessor. The Galaxy S2 comes with phenomenally fast 3G connections (21MBps HSDPA is twice as fast as the current industry standard), as well as Wi-Fi with DLNA and Wi-Fi Direct support. These Wi-Fi features allow you to hook the phone up to other compatible devices so that you can stream content, to your TV or computer for example, and you can also use the phone as a network hub. The new Galaxy also comes with an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p video support and a second 2 megapixel camera for video calling (one of the highest quality front facing phone camera's around). With the Galaxy S2 Samsung have managed to pack the best technology around into a single phone, which is quite an achievement when you consider how thin the handset is. In all areas, including messaging, connectivity, camera, entertainment and web browsing the Galaxy S 2 performs far beyond expectations.
