Do affordable wedding dresses really exist?? It seems that with the markup on bridal dresses being through the roof, it's hard to find a stunning wedding gown within a budget.
The more I read about wedding dresses, (because I love the subject) I continue to be amazed at the prices brides are willing to pay for a wedding gown!
I mean, $2000-3000 is outrageous!!! And to have to put it on your credit card or on any kind of payment plan is just so depressing.
The more I've learned about the bridal industry, the angrier I become about it. The markup on bridal gowns is on average about 300% but can be as high as 600%.
Now, normally, retailers of any other product markup their prices about 100% on average. So why is the markup so high on bridal gowns??????
Because brides are willing to pay that much.
Many times, you'll find that you're paying for the designer label. But the retailer only pays a fraction and then still marks them up enormously.
Usually the gowns you find in those pricey boutiques are made in China, at a whole lot less than that price tag demands.
Brides are led to believe that the more you pay, the better the gown....NOT TRUE! (If you believe this, you're wasting your money. Read on...)
So, what's a bride to do?
Basically, if you don't want to pay that hefty price tag, you're options are to buy a used gown- but, really, who wants to buy a wedding gown that some other bride has already worn?
Or you could buy affordable wedding dresses online.
The problem with that is you never know what you're going to get. And because most online bridal companies are Chinese, it can be really difficult to get good customer service AND get a dress that isn't shoddy looking.
Yes, there are some good ones out there, but you have to find those same factories that make the dresses found in boutiques and this is not always so easy to do. You don't want get a low quality looking dress just days before your wedding.

You would really need assurance that they can deliver what they've promised.
You would need to know that they only use the best quality fabrics-not the plastic shoddy looking ones.
That they have wedding dress making experience and know exactly what they're doing.
That they have good communication during the whole process and answer all your questions no matter how big or small.
And if they sent a photo of your dress before they the dress to you in order to get your final approval, then that would be a perfect world!
