subject: Official Dealerships Or Generic Mechanics For Your Service? [print this page]

A car can be an expensive investment, and one that keeps costing more and more; from the initial purchase, which can be quite hefty, through to keeping it in petrol and mechanically healthy, it all adds up. The question many people ask is should they go to any local garage or should they spend the extra money and get an official Ford, BMW or MINI service?

The simple answer is that it depends. Some garages in local areas employ some mechanics that are extremely skilled and the quality of the repairs will be just as good as an official Lexus, Toyota or MINI service. On the other hand, however, there are a great many garages throughout the country who damage the reputations of these mechanics, offering shoddy work, overcharging for it or charging for work which doesn't need doing.

An official Mercedes, Daewoo or MINI service provides you with the peace of mind that your car is in the hands of a mechanic or team of mechanics who are fully trained and licensed to work on your specific model of car. This means that their reputation will most likely be above reproach, and you will get the best possible quality of work on your car without worrying that you might be being overcharged or that the latest problem they found might not actually exist.

Although they tend to be a little more expensive than a generic garage's work, an official Audi, Nissan or MINI service will almost always be far more affordable than you are expecting. The quality of the work is all but guaranteed and is an excellent way of setting your mind at rest.

As large an investment as you car can be, and as expensive it can be to keep on the road with the rising costs of petrol and parts, there is simply no excuse to skimp on the quality of the mechanical care you entrust it with. The better quality of the care you put your vehicle in for, the more likely that your car will last for a much longer time and will cost you less in the long run as your service will catch any problems before they become serious issues.

Although a good local mechanic is likely to be able to do a very good job with your car, an official BMW, Honda or MINI service makes it far more likely that you will be able to keep your car healthy for a much longer period of time, saving you money in the long run.
