Portraying a mother belonging to South India in the movie, Mr and Mrs Iyer, Konkona Sen Sharma became popular in the national level. Her portrayal of the character of a journalist in Page 3 was very well appreciated by the cinemagoers. Within a short span of time, she also enacted various other characters that fetched her recognition. Her acting in Omkara and Life In A Metro, brought her successive Filmfare Awards under the category, supporting actress.

Her versatility was proved when she convincingly enacted the character of a psychologically ill woman in 15 Park Avenue and gave life to the character of a prostitute in Traffic Signal. She appeared in two commercial films made by Yash Raj films. Konkana directed an eighteen minute short film called Naamkoron. This directorial debut was played at the Kala Ghoda Film Festival.

Mira Nair's short movie titled 8, For How Can It Be?, saw Konkona Sen Sharma performing a role. People can also see her in The President Is Coming, an English movie. She got good reviews for her main role opposite to Farhan Akhtar in the film Luck By Chance. She experimented with comedy genre and appeared in Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge and Wake Up Sid.

She has acted for the 1st time onstage in the play The Blue Mug, in which she performs alongside Vinay Pathak, Rajat Kapoor, Sheeba Chadha and husband Ranvir Shorey. She was seen to be anchoring in the National Geographic Channel in a show My Brilliant Brain. Film lovers can see her graceful and classy enactment on screen in her upcoming films Jackpot, Mirch and Sunglasses.
