What is Certified Organic Cotton and Natural Green Cotton? Safe Healthy Bedding

Toddler Bedding Express products are made from natural & certified organic cotton.

Certified 100% Organic Cotton

Organic cotton is the purest form of cotton, grown without toxins, synthetic pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, or GMO's (genetically modified organisms). Sustainable and organic growing methods support biodiversity and healthy ecosystems, improving the quality of the soil, using less water and helping to prevent groundwater pollution. Organic farmers rely on crop rotation to replenish and maintain soil fertility. Mechanical cultivation and botanical or biological means are used to control pests and weeds. A field must be pesticide-free for at least three years to be certified organic, and the cotton must be processed according to international organic standards. The standards also set strict guidelines for transportation and storage to avoid cross-contamination. In the U.S., cotton labeled as organic has to be certified by an independent agency recognized by the USDA's National Organic Program.

What is green cotton?

The cotton WLH uses to make standard mattresses is known as "green" cotton. This means that once it is harvested from the bolls it is unprocessed no bleaches, dyes or fungicides. Green cotton comes from US conventionally grown cotton that is not bleached or process. The textile industry leaves some pieces of the cotton fiber behind that cannot be used to make t-shirts, fabrics etc. This left over cotton fiber would have ended up in a landfill, until some smart folks discovered that by garnering this extra cotton fiber, they would create cotton batting which is now used in our mattresses, pillows and other bedding. This is why we call it GREEN COTTON, it is a fiber that is now up-cycled and this is something we can all feel good about. The scent that you may experience is due to the fact that while the cotton is harvested, the cotton seeds are broken, therefore releasing cotton seed oil scent, just like what happens with the popcorn seeds. This scent will dissipate with time. We guarantee that you have nothing to worry about, if you have never been in the middle of a cotton field, this scent may not be familiar to you.
