Asics continues their updates of the 2011 spring running shoes with this update of the fast selling stability shoe. The GT-2160 has been introduced in place of the GT-2160. The shoe has been improved both comfort and performance wise. The GT-2160 is also the lightest shoe in the entire GT-2100 series.
The number of shoes capable of referencing from the marketing is indeed very few, and the GT-2160 is among these. Runners buy many of this updates from Asics which makes it very difficult for them to change when the next issue comes out.
The GT-2160's stability is taken care of by the Duo Max system, a hard piece of foam injected into the midsole's mold just inside the foot's medial area and extends from under the ankle to about mid heel. It can be recognized easily due to its dark gray color and helps prevent excessive collapse during running. The other stability feature used is the Trustic system by Asics. This is a plastic thermal unit used to wrap just under the midsole's arch to offer torsional stability. This helps keeps the foot from undergoing unnatural rotations. Carried forward from the GT-2150, the Trustics system is gender specific. The men's version differs from the female version. The female version features a bridge that is more extended hence wrapping the foot a little higher to provide women with more stability due to their larger Q-angle.
2 units of the cushioning system, the Asics Gel, are embedded in the forefoot and the heel. The shock is absorbed by the decoupled heel depending on how he foot lands and distributes the pressure evenly during gait.
The biggest change in the 2011 update is the inclusion of the guidance line which has also been included in many of the recent releases by Asics. The guidance system comprises of a longitudinal groove etched into the shoe's midsole to help the foot go through the best stride. The weight of the shoe is also reduced by the guidance line.
Again, the design of the upper in the GT-2160 bears a lot of resemblance to that of the 2150the shoes is tightly wrapped in place by syntetic overlays which connect the midsole to the upper. The ComfortDry Sockline is rich and detachable so as to accommodate orthotics. The ComfortDry sockliner provides more amortization and even anti microbial activity helping reduce odors. The collar of the heel now has memory foam on both the external and internal sides, an improvement from the previous version that only had the foam on the internal side.
The Asics GT 2160 shoe is basically a GT-2150 with slight updates and improvements. The minimum alteration was a good idea since the 2150 was among last year's best shoes. Asics Running Shoes are ideal for a moderate to mild overpronator and the $100 price isn't that steep if you consider the quality of the shoe. It competes directly with the Triax+14 by Nike and will give you enough support for everyday training.
