Visiting Hawaii - Old Time Haleiwa

An hour fifty minutes ride on bus Route 52 from Ala Moana Center takes visitors to the opposite side of the island of Oahu wherethe small town of Haleiwa resides. Once in Hawaii, visiting Haleiwa is a trip back in time to the laid-back days when Hawaiian royalty turned this town into their favorite playground. Later on, fame arrived to its shores when Hollywood producers were visiting Hawaii, and they found Haleiwa a perfect location to shoot the famous TV series Baywatch.

Those days are gone. Already in the XXI century, a tranquile and peaceful life still reigns every day in a town with only one place in shopping-center-style called North Shore Marketplace. It is worth spending time to see its stores and the ones around the marketplace. Although many are exclusively about women's clothing, other locales offer visitors a selection of goods from the real Hawaii unknown to most people. There are several Art Galleries displaying the work of an active community of talented artists of either local and others that moved to Haleiwa.

Once in Hawaii, visiting Haleiwa is a realization that this incomparable town is a present-time picture of its own past; and along with its genuine charm, it rightfully captivates everyone. When visiting the island of Oahu in Hawaii, Haleiwa gracefully gives visitors momentous and timeless memories to take back home.

It does not take much walking toreach the out-skirt of town. It is then a short walk to Haleiwa Beach Park. The beach is wide and quite long. It is a good beach to relax on the sand enjoying the view of the ocean, to play with the waves, or to do some surfing if you are into it.

* Recommendations *

Many of the streets in Haleiwa remained as they were over a hundred years ago. The area from the front wall of stores go straight to the street without side walks, and all you will find are small pebbles to walk on. It is part of Haleiwa's charm. As a result, it is recommended to not use flimsy shoeware such as flip-flops.

Haleiwa is a place where prices for food are not on the badget side, and so, you may want to bring in your own foodbuying locally the more reasonably priced drinks.However, some local places offer foods worth paying the price for. It is best to find a local guy ~or two~ and ask for advice on wherethey eat good food for a reasonale price.

When visiting Hawaii, keep in mind that Oahu is an island in which drinkable and potable water is limited. So please, in consideration to local people, limit the duration of showers you take at the beach or in the hotel.

* Average Time Needed *

If you want to make it to the beach at Haleiwa Beach Park after walking around town, youwill need the entire day. Just remember that you have an hour and fifty minutes bus ride back into Honolulu. So, leave Ala Moana Center early in the morning; and you will have plenty of time to enjoy this old-time town and its beach.
