Renault 5 Reborn

With the boom in demand of the super mini Renault the French car maker is said to be considering developing their own version to enter this market. It is thought that the new car will be inspired by the old classic Renault 5.

The UK market has seen demand for the smaller car such as the Citroen DS3 and Fiat 500 boom in 2010 and 2011. This growth has been built on a foundation of green credentials, cheap ticket price and funky look that has gripped the attention of the nation. Many new purchasers are being sucked in by the low price and environmentally friendly effects. Plus they are also small and swift which makes getting around town centres much easier than in a larger model.

Renault has clearly identified this as an area of growth for the current and future which could be very profitable for the motor giant. As the company already has a strong offering in other sized markets they would add the final price to the offering to add a small sized car.

The original Renault 5 model hit the forecourt for the first time in the 70's and has been an icon ever since. When it was replaced in the mid eighties die hard owners have been joining groups and keeping the spirit of the small car alive. As the countries interests have changed back tot he small model now could be the time for a rebirth.

The answers that are still unknown are when this model will become a reality. Renault already has a huge backlog of new models to release and is pushing ahead with its electric vehicles. So unless the car giant sees fit to try and push it into the queue ahead of other projects we may not see the revitalisation of the new look 5 for another few years.

Leaving this model for a few years could be a big mistake for the company, as the 500 and DS3 are already on the road they are building a healthy following. This can be seen on many roads as the models pop up more and more. Missing the boat is not really an option when launching a new car so when the new look 5 comes to the forecourt it may be a more futuristic look than the classic looks of the 500.

This may give a more chic option for lovers of the small car. Whilst the 500 has been so successful its design will not be for everyone and having a futuristic looking model may tempt some new drivers to the market. What you can expect is that if the company can encapsulate the essence of the old model it may tempt many of the old school followers to trade in their current cars and get back into a 5.

We hope to see this car on the market as soon as possible, weather this will happen or not is completely unknown. Adding a new model to the small car market would be excellent at this point in the product life cycle.
