A Guide to Back Support Office Chairs

Modern work environments require you to spend long hours at your desk. In such case, the chances of back problems increase. Taking proper precautions such as using back support office chairs can save your medical expenses in the long run. These chairs are ergonomic, and so better than regular ones for the office. In a recent survey by Staples Advantage, 86% of office workers reported some discomfort from their office furniture and equipment. 54% say that if they could make one change in their workspace, they would ask for an ergonomic office chair. The survey was conducted online, among 150 employees.

You should know how to use these chairs once you get them. Use the arm rests, and place the lumbar support a little below the waist line. You should adjust the chair's height so that your feet can rest fully on the floor. Keep one to three inches between your seat's edge and the back of the knees.

If possible, you should use a high back chair to provide support to your shoulders. Your hips should be a little higher than the knees. Your feet should remain on the floor.

Rather than keeping your feet flat on the floor, you should move them around frequently. You can use a foot rest if you like, but only for part of the time. Refrain from crossing your ankles.

Lean back a little. If you lean your trunk back about 100-130 degrees in a parallel manner to the floor, the hips will be relaxed as well as the pelvis. Check that the back of your chair is still able to support your shoulders while providing the required lumbar support.

Keep your head slightly up, so that it is approximately perpendicular to the floor. Your upper arms should hang in a natural manner from your shoulders. Rest your lower arms on the arm rests. Keep them slightly below to or parallel to the floor.

Your wrists should be straight. You should take breaks often. Consider taking a ten minute break for every hour of work. Take a half a minute mini break for every ten minutes that you work. Do stretches in these breaks.

Keep changing your position. You can move your hips, adjust your hips, and lift your arms a little throughout the day.

Look for a manufacturer online for back support office chairs. Read customer testimonials to get feedback on the chairs. Alternatively, you can ask your friends, family, or colleagues for recommendations.
