How To Stop Having Nightmares All The Time

If you're constantly waking up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night then you need to work out how to stop having nightmares. Nightmares are the ultimate bad dream. They're often a manifestation of things that are happening in your life and our bad dreams are often way too believable. Which is why we call them nightmares.

Cut down on the booze

I know you've heard this before. And sorry to sound like I'm lecturing you. But alcohol disrupts our sleep and is a depressant. That combination means that it could be helping to attract nightmares into your life. So cut down or - even better - give yourself a night or two without this artificial additive in your diet.

Learn to relax

Another major cause of having nightmares is too much stress. Your body is coiled up tight and the stress has to have some way of getting released. For some people, this manifests itself in the form of nightmares. So find a way to relax. Whether it's one of the traditional methods such as yoga or meditation or whether it's just a nice warm bath and some scented candles. Whatever works best for you and helps you to relax and de-stress yourself.

Adjust your temperature

Sleep is actually quite a fussy thing and the temperature of the room and your bed can disrupt it. If you find that you're having more nightmares when the seasons change, it could well be because you haven't adjusted the temperature of your bedroom.

Keep a journal

It's generally thought that our dreams have hidden meanings. Whenever you have a dream - whether it's a nice dream or a nasty nightmare - jot it down in your journal. Sometimes our minds use dreams and nightmares as a way of dealing with other things that are taking place in our lives. Writing them down may help you to make sense of your nightmares which in turn should help you to stop having nightmares as often.

Talk to a friend

Discussing your nightmares out loud with a close friend is another option to help you cut down on the number of nightmares you're having. Choose your friend closely - you don't want one who'll just tell you to stop being stupid - but talking your nightmares through with someone else can be quite therapeutic.

Use hypnosis

Because our nightmares are at least partially to do with things bubbling up from our subconscious, hypnosis has a high success rate in dealing with those issues. It's simple and with today's modern technology it's also completely discreet. No-one other than you need know that you're using hypnosis as a way to stop having nightmares.
