How to Choose a Canine Bed Bed Inspection Company

How to Choose a Dog Bed Bug Inspection Company

Ask if the dog inspection team has been certified by an independent, nationally recognized, third party organization. With NESDCA (National Entomology Scent Detection Canine Association) certification the dog handler and the search dog have been tested and certified to ensure a) the dog alerts to live bed bugs and viable bed bug eggs and not dead bed bugs, cast skins, and fecal matter; and b) the dog handler knows how to "read" his dog and can control the canine in a thorough and systematic search of the areas to be inspected.

The dog team should not have a financial interest in whether bed bugs are found or not. For example, the dog team should be an independent company and not owned by a pest control company.

Is the bed bug inspection company willing to accommodate your schedule and availability. Timeliness is essential you need to detect early and treat early before the infestation gets too large.

The dog handler should be involved in their profession by joining related professional organizations.

The handler should be dedicated to ongoing training for his dog. Ask them how they keep their dogs sharp and on task. What are they doing to help eliminate or at least try to keep "false alerts" to a minimum? Daily training should be done with what we term "unknown hides", that is, having a third party hide bed bug vials whose location is unknown to the dog handler.

Use the NESDCA website to find certified dog bed bug inspection teams in your area.

Buy value, not price!

So there you have it, these are some critical items to take into consideration when you are looking to hire a canine scent detection service to check out your home or even office for those blood sucking, insidious, secretive, critters. Good Hunting!
