Working with Free Website Templates

Free websites templates are primarily design elements that allow you to add whatever content you need to be able to create a fully functional website. There are several uses for free website templates. It can b used for setting up your personal blog, creating an image gallery and displaying products online to sell them. Hundreds of websites are also now offeriyng them for free.

If you want to have your own website for whatever purpose, there are some things you will need to get set-up on the web. First, you need a web host. This is a service provider that will offer you space on their shared server or your own dedicated server . They usually own data centers that connect to the web and serve up websites from these. You can take the route of hosting your own website but it would take a lot of money to build the infrastructure that would allow you to do that.

Once you've contacted a host for your webfiles, you will need a domain. Basically, your domain will be your address in the web. You can only get the domain from a domain registrar, GoDaddy, Enom and your local registrar are some examples. There are several types of domains you can get: .com are for companies, .org are for organizations, .net for networks and so on. There's also the ccTLD or the County Code Top Level Domain: .sg for Singapore, .us for the United States, .ca for Canada and so on. You will need to configure your domain name server or DNS to point to the one provided by your web host where your free website template files are located.

In most cases, your hosting provider can help you get a domain registered and your domain registrar can provide you hosting services. It is entirely up to you where you choose to get your free website templates hosted and where you get your domains. Some free website template providers offer this as an additional service, if you want to help them out or say thank you for using the template, then you may opt to get their services.

Once you are done with the technical aspect of setting up a site with a free website template, it's now time to do some tweaking. Change the logo to use your own. If you are particular about the corporate or branding colors you want to use, you can also tweak this via the CSS or cascading stylesheet file that comes with the free website template.

Finally, you need to work on the content. Start with the index page content, use this to create a welcoming message for your site visitors. Then, work on the category pages and the navigations for your website. If you're ready, start uploading the products you want to sell online. Make sure you also create your own product descriptions to avoid having duplicate content as other websites on the internet.

There you have it, your own online store ready to sell your first item.
