Sacrosanctum Concilium in Rome
Sacrosanctum Concilium in Rome

The sacred Council intends to grow every day Christian life among the faithful, to better adapt to the needs of our age those institutions which are subject to change; to foster whatever can promote union among all believers in Christ; to strengthen whatever can help to call in the bosom of the Church. Considers that it cogent reasons for undertaking the reform and promotion of the liturgy. The mystery in the liturgy of the Church2. For the liturgy, through which, in the divine sacrifice of the Eucharist, "takes place the work of our redemption" [1], is the outstanding means whereby the faithful may express in their lives and manifest to others the mystery of Christ and the real nature of the true Church.

This does have the distinction of being both human and divine, visible but endowed with invisible realities, zealous in action and dedicated to contemplation, present in the world and yet, all this in such a way, however, that what is in it the human is directed and subordinated to the divine, the visible and the invisible, action to contemplation, the present reality to the city yet, to which we seek [2]. In this way the liturgy, and daily builds up those who are in the Church to make it a holy temple in the Lord, dwelling in the Spirit of God [3], up to the measure of the fullness of Christ [4] at the same time and in a wonderful way strengthens their power to preach Christ. So those who are outside it shows the Church as a sign lifted up among the nations [5], under which the scattered children of God may be gathered together [6], as long as there is one fold and one shepherd [7].Liturgy and ritual3. The sacred synod therefore considered appropriate to draw the following principles concerning the promotion and reform of the liturgy and set of rules for their implementation. Among these many rules and principles can and should be applied to both the Roman Rite and to the other rites, although the practical rules that follow should be construed as referring to the single Roman rite, except in the case of things which by their very nature refer to other rites.Estimate for the rites recognized4. Finally, the sacred Council, in faithful obedience to tradition, declares that Holy Mother Church is of equal right and dignity of all lawfully recognized rites, he wants that in future they are maintained and increased in every way, also desires that, if necessary will be revised carefully in the light of sound tradition, and that they be given new vigor to meet the circumstances and needs of our time.

CHAPTER IGENERAL PRINCIPLES FOR THE REFORM AND THEPROMOTION OF THE SACRED LITURGYI.

Nature of the sacred liturgy and its importance in the life of the Church5. God, who "wants all men to be saved and reach full knowledge of the truth" (1 Timothy 2:4), "after having several times in the past several ways spoke to our forefathers through the prophets" (Heb 1 , 1), when the fullness of time, he sent his Son, the Word made flesh, anointed by the Holy Spirit to preach good news to the poor, to heal the brokenhearted [8], "doctor of flesh and spirit" [9], the mediator between God and men [10]. In fact, his humanity, the unity of the person of the Word, was the instrument of our salvation. For this reason Christ "was our perfect reconciliation with God now subsided and we were given the fullness of divine worship" [11]. This work of redeeming mankind and giving perfect glory to God, which has its prelude in the wonderful works of God among the people of the Old Testament was accomplished by Christ the Lord principally by the paschal mystery of his blessed passion, resurrection from the dead and glorious ascension, whereby "dying he destroyed our death and rising he restored our life" [12]. Was from the side of Christ dying on the Cross gave birth to the wondrous sacrament of the Church [13].
