The chronic skin disorder that give white patches to the skin, commonly known as Vitiligo and even referred as Leucoderma has affected almost 3% of worlds population that means one person in every 100 people is stricken by this disease approximately. The disease is not life threatening but due to cosmetic disfigurement it is a social issue and therefore a patient suffering from Vitiligo have to face many problems while coping up with the disease.

A major problem of the disease is that it mainly affects ones appearance and is quite visible especially with the dark skin people, which makes it difficult to interact with other people. The large number of victims of Vitiligo disease gives the wrong impression to many that it is contagious that is also one of the reason that the patients of Vitiligo are not accepted in the society this easily.

It is true that Vitiligo has taken tolls of million without biased of gender, age or race but it is not at all true which is confirmed by all the experts allover the world that Vitiligo is not all contagious and do not spread through touch. However it is susceptible in the people suffering from the any sort of auto-immune disease such as thyroid, Adrenocortical insufficiency, or diabetes etc. Genetics are also suspected as the reason for the occurrence of the disease. But none of the reasons are confirmed, as the disease has not been understood yet. Vitiligo due to its peculiar characteristics has been a controversial issue and is misconceived times and again therefore no Vitiligo cure has been discovered yet.

The disease has prevailed from the very beginning of human history and has also been discussed in bible as well ancient Greek writings. But the experts believe it is pretty old than this and has existed before the history is recorded as similar conditions were also observed in some animals. The disease from early times was considered to be contagious and therefore some one suffering from it was exiled and was force to live alone. Some events also indicate the whole family has to suffer and were exiled if any single person was susceptible of this disease, as Vitiligo was thought to be a genetic disorder. The experts prove that Vitiligo is neither contagious not always inherited, as the study says that 70% of Vitiligo patients had no family history of the disease. The studies also proved that not every person genetically susceptible of the disease will suffer it. Also many researches for Vitiligo cure has been conducted on the basis of these theories, and some of the treatment for Vitiligo works for the on the basis of same mechanism.
