The cream must be applied on the skin of the affected area and its exposure to eyes, nostrils and lips should be avoided.

Treatment of Actinic Keratoses

If the cream is being used to treat actinic keratoses, the patient generally needs to apply it once a day twice a week, keeping a gap of 3-4 days in between. For instance, a patient can either apply the medicine on Monday and Thursday or on Tuesday and Friday. The medicine should be left on one's skin for eight hours. Application of Aldara should be continued for a full 16 weeks even if all the actinic keratoses are gone, unless otherwise instructed by a doctor. Treatment of Superficial Basal Cell Carcinoma

If the Aldara cream is being used to treat superficial basal cell carcinoma, the patient generally needs to apply it once a day five times a week (Monday to Friday). The medicine should be left on the affected area for a period of eight hours. The cream needs to be applied on the affected area and the immediate surrounding area. Treatment of Genital and Anal Warts

In case the Aldara cream is being used to treat genital and anal warts, the patient needs to apply it once a day for three alternate days of a week. The cream should be left on the skin for six to ten hours in this case. The area on which you apply the Aldara cream should be washed by mild soap and water after the application period ends.
