"Strangers on the Road", That's what Paul Harvey called the phenomenon when answers find the askers.
Many science experiments gone wrong have created great inventions, matter of fact, it is said that Thomas Edison conducted thousands of experiments before he created the first real Incandescent Light Bulb. That boy asked alot of questions. But others, like William H. Mason stumbled upon their Inventions. Mason, while trying to convert lumber scrap into some sort of insulation left a pressure valve closed when he should have opened it before he went to lunch. On his return he found masonite instead of insulation. An answer he wasn't even looking for found him while he was taking a break. Another multi million dollar industry was born.
What does this have to do with buying American Made? Well, if your asking certain questions like: How do we fix an economy on a downhill sloap? How do I plan for my future? How can I help keep the local factory open? Buying American and helping to promote American Made Products is a ready made answer. This is more than a good and noble cause. When you look a little deeper it affects us all in very practicle ways. Every year fifty states budget money to state universities that spend that money on licencing university merchandise that is manufactured overseas. That merchandise is sold without one dollar going to a state or American manufacturer, that revenue is gone forever. I recently browsed a university apparel store that sold thousands of units of licenced university merchandise and I did not find one piece of American Made Clothing or headwear. If we, the taxpayer, demanded that 15% of university licenced merchandise be made in the USA that would, in itself, create a multi billion dollar industry. That money would reapear in our communities residually year after year in the form of jobs for you or your neighbor, or maybe it will lay the ground work for your childs occupation when they enter the work force. Maybe it will be the extra money needed to buy vest for your police officers or fund a night class on entrepreneurship in your community that is open to the public. Lots of your money, lots of opportunity. LOST!
