Video Game Tester, Is It For You?

Though as he gets older he realize all the is involved in being a fireman but little does he know that being a video game tester is also a tough job without the dream hours (we know that isn't a fair comparison but I do hope you get the idea).

So if being a video game tester is what you are looking for you might be a little disappointed to know that you probably won't be working from home. This is because game testers work in-house, which means they work on consoles and PC's that are at the developer's headquarters, usually with specific goals or directions that requires you to work there.

Exception To The Rule

As with some thing there are exceptions. During certain testing cycles and for some consoles or styles of the game, you might be able to work from home. Usually during the beta testing phase is when the game can be tested on standard machine. Also in certain situation such as illness or family situation, you might be allowed to stay at home.

These are rare exceptions because game testers are vital aspect to the testing process which is why they are needing in-house. They are needed to be consulted often and will need to run very detailed test case and to fill out bug reports that are then analyzed by other testers and entered into a bug database. Those things are much easier and faster being done in-house.

If you are wanting to move up in the company than working at the office will be to your advantage. Since you will be able to work with and near producers, designers, and programmers who can put in a good word for you if they like your work.
