What is your opinion for these stylish sports wristbands?
There has been a lot of buzz around the new sports wristband that have magnetic fields or emit a physiologically beneficial energy.
Is any of this true? The opinions and verdict seem mixed. Some people have found them to be really beneficial and performance enhancing. Other people have experienced absolutely no effect from them at all. Other than the fact that they are really great and cool looking wristbands. In contrast, some people even wear them to sleep so that they can maximize the amount of physiological restoration they would gain from the wristbands. Other folks remain critically skeptical and continue to try to find proof beyond reasonable doubt that these silicone bands are nothing more than the age old snake oil marketing hype.
We put a few of our friends to the test and even tried it ourselves. The strange thing is, they did seem to improve our own sports performance. We tried it during running, yoga, weight training, golfing and even bowling. It's absolutely ridiculous for fact-based realistic and analytically minded folks to believe and admit it. However, the people we have tried the wristbands on (including ourselves) experienced more flexibility, endurance, speed, agility and stamina by wearing them while performing different types of physical activities.
From a scientific perspective, other than the combination of minor energy emission and personal preference, the whole thing may be explained by the placebo benefits that is sometimes witness during medical / drug clinical trials. When the test subjects think it works or when the study is not blinded, the response is influenced by psychological and human factors. In scientific terms, this type of bias is well documented, which is why clinical trials need to be rather robust, controlled by strict protocol and run under streamline conditions to ensure the data and findings are indeed unbiased, sound and of good quality.
The only conclusion we can draw from our own mini experiment is that if you believe it is true, then it works like a charm. Again, the power of the human mind is remarkable.
If you have any experience to share, please add your comments. We would be interested to hear what others have found and think.
