A few years ago, I had what I thought was a cold that turned out to be walking pneumonia. I went through the usual routine. I got an x-ray, a diagnosis, then an antibiotic, then POOF no more walking pneumonia! Although my pneumonia did not linger I ended up contracting asthma in the process. My asthma was never serious enough for me to be admitted to a hospital, but I had to make sure I took an inhaler with me whenever I left the house. No surprise to me because I work in the air purification industry and know the inherit health benefits of breathing purified air. I have used an Alpine Air Purifier over the years. It is significant that even though I had cats at the time, I almost never had a problem breathing when at home. I probably would have had to get rid of the cats if I had not been able to get their dander out of the air. Anyway, I went to several doctors over the years for my asthma. They never wanted to spend time talking about how to cure my asthma since it was a condition only to be treated, not cured. I was just given another script for an inhaler and told they'd see me next time. The long and short of it was that my asthma impacted my life for several years.
One of the things I love most is to read and go to used book stores. I do this at least once a week. One day as I perused the stacks I found a book by a well known character actor. I am sorry but I can't remember his name. I loaned the book to someone and never got it back. It was a small book that told of how he had suffered with asthma since early childhood. It had affected every aspect of his life. His dream was to become an actor and he worked hard to make sure that his asthma would not interfere with his dream. As best as I can remember, he went to New York and took acting and voice lessons. Now here was the most important point that I gleaned from this book: his voice coach gave him a breathing exercise in order to help cured his asthma. According to this author...it worked!
Every day, without fail, he was to breathe in very deeply. Then purse his lips like he was whistling and push the air out as fast and hard as he could. After doing the exercises for several weeks his asthma went away. Remember, it has been several years since I read the book, so do't hold me to the details, but the important point is the asthma went away.
Here is something that I can tell you for a fact. I had a rowing machine and I started rowing every day. I would row for 30 minutes. After 5 to 10 minutes, as I was breathing very deeply, I would start pursing my lips and blow out very hard. Just like with the actor, I was asthma-free in a few weeks and have stayed that way ever since. The cure was, and still is, amazing to me.
If you should try this breathing exercise, please let me know how it works for you.
