subject: Hold Them Accountable [print this page] Hold Them Accountable Hold Them Accountable
Times are hard. We are not in a recession. We are in a full blown depression. Our politicians are dancing around spinning fact into fiction as they show us manufactured figures of hope.
We are so punch drunk that we simply accept their spin, instead of insisting that they do the job they were elected to do; run the country for the benefit of all Americans. Not just for the rich; not just for vested interests; not for the oil companies; not for the political contributors, who currently dictate policy, but for all Americans. And, particularly, for the most vulnerable Americans; the very young, the very old, the ill, the poor. That's the mandate given to our elected officials.
And how do they discharge that mandate? It's simple really. They throw billions and billions of dollars into spurious foreign conflicts EVERY WEEK. They ignore our starving children. They ignore entire American families living on the street because they couldn't pay their mortgage; they couldn't pay their mortgage because they lost their jobs. We have record unemployment.
What is the matter with our politicians? Well, they're not starving. Their children are not starving. They don't know anyone who is starving. They are surrounded by obsequious acolytes and groveling lobbyists. They're drunk on self importance.
And on March 19th, they opened another foreign conflict. In Libya. It's acceptable to spend yet more billions on yet another open-ended foreign conflict, while our own people live in desperation.
Have we all gone completely mad? Are we so frightened by our pain that we cannot hold these fools accountable for their actions? Yes, we are. So far.
We should not be. There are more than 307,000,000 of us. We are The People. We do not want to bankrupt our country on foreign conflicts. We want to cherish our poor, our starving, our sick, our homeless.
We must insist that our troops return to the US. No more invasions. No more sacrificing our young soldiers to the whim of greed. No more so-called wars that we cannot win.
It is the solemn duty of our politicians to put our people first. They must be made accountable for their actions. We don't need to march on Washington. We need only organize marches of fury in our own towns and cities. On a designated day. With plenty of notice. Fully orchestrated. All banners having an accountability theme.
If we do not start now to hold our politicians accountable, we toss our children and grandchildren into the slough of despond and the realm of the third world.
