With shocking statistics such as 3 out of 4 women and 1 out of 4 men suffering with chronic yeast infections, one has to wonder what is happening to cause all of these people getting sick? 50 years ago, Candida infections weren't near the problem they are now, while we pride ourselves as now being cleaner, smarter, and more medically advanced than we were back then.
So what has caused this chronic Candida epidemic that's plaguing millions of people daily? I think chronic yeast infections are the result of two major problems facing our modern society.
2 Factors Contributing to Chronic Yeast Infections
The first factor that has contributed to this problem is our overuse of antibiotics. We have learned to tackle almost any bacterial infection with these drugs and many see them as magic pills that will make them better as quick as possible the moment the first sniffle starts. Even medical professionals are quick to prescribe antibiotics without fully assessing the patient's symptoms or allowing the sickness to run its course. The problem results from these drugs not only killing the bad bacteria in the patient, but also the good bacteria. The good bacteria in our bodies are essential to be healthy as they help us digest our food and keep other microbes in balance including Candida albicans yeast cells. Without these helpful bacteria cells to compete with, yeast cells can grow out of control causing chronic conditions. Once this imbalance results it can be difficult to turn the tide back in the favor of the helpful bacteria.
The second factor that contributes to chronic yeast infections is our poor western diets. Obesity is a huge problem facing our modern society and I believe obesity directly correlates with increased yeast infections. The same diet that is making everyone so fat is also the diet that causes Candida yeast cells to flourish. Diets high in sugar, refined carbs, and processed foods are not only the recipe for obesity, but also the recipe to develop chronic yeast infections. Yeast cells thrive is sugary environments and grow quickly, this process has been used to make bread, beer, and wine for 1000's of years, however, this fermentation can take place in and on the human body as well when diets are too rich in sugar and refined carbs. What's worse, all the chemicals in the food supply weaken people's immune systems, which gives Candida albicans an even easier chance to thrive. Chronic yeast infections cause a vicious cycle in the human because the alcohol they produce as a byproduct causes a type of addiction in the sufferer. This addiction results in severe sugar and carb cravings that cause the person to choose sugary foods to satisfy these cravings. This not only keeps feeding the yeast cells, but also continues to make people fatter as well.
Conclusions
If a person wishes to be cured of chronic yeast infections, then some steps must be taken and one of them isn't running to the doctor for yet another drug. Instead it involves changing lifestyle and diet factors. Only take antibiotics when absolutely necessary and learn how to eat in a way that starves the yeast cells and strengthens the immune system. This will not only put an end to yeast infections but also help solve obesity problems as well.
