One of the first rules of content marketing is that content is king and Google seeks original content. But if you write articles and distribute them to article syndication sites like Article Base, Ezine etc. how will Google know you are the original author? Also if someone plagiarizesyour content from these syndication sites or your own site how can you ensure that Google will know you're the original author? This article provides simple steps to follow to ensure Google credits you as the original author in both instances.
Get indexed by Google
Google would normally credit the content indexed first as being the original authority so make sure your original content is first indexed on your website before Google indexes the other sites.
To check whether your site has been indexed, type this into the Google search box:
"article title" site:yourwebsite.com and check the "cached" date. If no results are returned this means it has not been indexed.
Google trusts higher ranking sites more
Be careful when publishing your article on high ranking / more popular websites. Even if the original article on your site was indexed by Google before the higher ranking site, Google is more likely to credit them as the original authors because their rank and popularity has earned Google's trust. You can avoid this happening by:1. Asking the website to credit you as the original author2. Requesting a link at the end of the article with the original article name as the anchor text and the URL pointing back to the original article location. This is known as a deep link- i.e. a link from a content page on one website. A deep link, especially from a high ranking website back to yours is beneficial.Example author credit:View the original post at: http://example.com or you could simply link the "view original" text directly to the URL.3. As an extra precaution add the "no index" meta tag:orto exclude Google, but allow other search engines to index the post.If you follow the above steps you should be credited for your original content no matter how many sites republish your article (legitimately or otherwise).Do you know of any other content publishing tips?
