Comparing Pepper Sprays And Stun Guns

One of the most commonly asked questions I get is which is better a stun gun or a pepper spray? The answer is really quite simple. It depends. Seriously, there are some similarities between the two but there are more differences. There are some positives and some not so positive differences.

Let's take a look at the differences between the two so you can make an intelligent decision on your own.

Price considerations-pepper sprays are cheaper starting at about $10 up to as much as $65.00. Stun guns start at $22 and go up to $89.00.

Effectiveness-both pepper sprays and stun guns are on average 90 percent effective.

Legality-pepper sprays are legal in all states but have some restrictions in a few states. Stun guns are illegal in about eight states.

Long-term damage-no long-term damage is done to the assailant.

Flexibility-pepper sprays can be used against dogs, human assailants and bear sprays can be used against mountain lions and bears course. Stun guns can only be used on human assailants.

Range-stun guns have to be physically applied to an assailant. Most pepper sprays have a range of 6 to 10 feet. New pepper gel's have a range of up to 18 or 20 feet. The Mace pepper gun has a range of 25 feet.

Popularity-pepper sprays are the most popular self defense product in the world followed closely by stun guns.

Weather conditions-believe it or not that is a consideration. Pepper spray may be affected by even a 10 mile an hour wind. A pepper gel does hold up better in outdoor conditions. With a stun gun that's not a factor.

The long and short of it is that I recommend to anyone who asks that they get both a pepper spray and a stun gun. That way, if you happen to miss with pepper spray the stun gun is a backup.

There is so much at stake, potentially your life or those of your loved ones, why not have both? They are both very easy to carry and conceal. Both are effective. Start with the pepper spray and end with the stun gun.

If you think crime can only happen to the other guy you are wrong. The "other guy" is thinking the same thing and you are that "other guy". There is a reason why they call it self defense. You have to protect yourself, your family, your home and business!!

Chances are very good that you are reading this because in some way crime has touched your life or you want to be proactive and protect yourself, family, home, or business from the ravages of crime. That is the first step.
