Motorcycles are vulnerable to vehicle safety barriers, and high vehicles such as lorries and and vehicles with a high centre of gravity, are vulnerable to going over some vehicle safety barriers.
A vehicle safety barrier is a barrier used in road design, and is put in place to prevent vehicles from leaving the roadway and to improve road safety. Safety barriers are commonly seen at sites where it may prove dangerous or even fatal if the vehicle accidentally left the roadway. Typical sites for vehicle safety barriers are bridge supports, mountain roads and median separators on multi-lane highways
Better safety barriers have been developed since the 1990s and these vehicle safety barriers can hold up and lead back vehicles of up to 40 tons.
There are many other types of vehicle barriers both permanent and semi-permanent. Some of these can include :
o Automatic raise arm barriers
o Automatic rising kerb
o Domestic and commercial automatic bollards
o Security automatic bollards
o Traffic flow control plates & security posts
Automatic raise arm barriers can be interfaced with unlimited access control options such as, proximity cards, remote control, vehicle identification tags, keypads, token or coin machines, or can be integrated with existing security systems.
Automatic rising kerbs are generally hydraulically operated and manufactured from welded metal plate steel. These types of barriers prevent intrusion by rising up from the road surface to present a barrier across the desired roadway or entrance. They can measure up to 5 metres in length and up to 800mm in height.
Security bollards are designed to restrict access in both public and private areas. These bollards are ideal for domestic driveways, where no more than 50% duty cycle bollards are required ( 200 operations per 24hr period 0.
Security bollards can be automatically operated or manually operated, The manual type is simply laid down horizontally and moved to a vertical position and locked in place. The automatic type is generally installed into the ground and rises up to prevent vehicle intrusion. The location for this type of bollard should be checked prior to installation, to prevent disturbance of any underground services.
Many of these automatic type barriers can be incorporated into any existed security systems, such as the use of security cameras with number plate recognition abilities.
Vehicle safety barriers are a necessary precaution and are seen all over the world in their various different types and designs.
