First Aid Training For a Safer Work Environment
Emergency first aid is termed as an urgent treatment and attention provided to a person suffering from an injury or a serious illness. Although it is not a replacement of professional medical care, but is helpful in controlling a suddenly arising health hazard until proper medical facility becomes available.
Normally first aid is put into practice during times of car accidents, at workplaces when a certain colleague collapses due to a heart attack, at a public gathering where a person may experience breathing difficulty due to congestion, at home when a family member burns their finger while cooking, in a playground when some kid sprains their ankle and in all such emergency situations similar to the ones mentioned above.
First Aid for a Safer Workplace
While first aid training is not obligatory for employees, it is recommended that company owners should take measures to educate their employees with basic health and safety knowledge. A few professions like nursing homes, flight cabin crew and heavy machinery factories contemplate first aid training to be a requirement for all employees.
Having a staff that can effectively handle intense emergency situations is beneficial for any workplace and makes it a safer place for the employees. Besides securing the working environment, self-tackling of minor accidents relieve the need of calling professional medical assistance, thereby liberating the employer from paying heavy compensation fees and reducing the panic caused in the workplace.
Apart from minor injuries, first aid is also helpful during times of major fatal incidents in the workplace such as a cardiac arrest or a mishap caused by mishandling of heavy machinery. In such critical situations, employees with first aid awareness will be able to provide prior care to the patient before proper medical care arrives. Since major incidents can cause death within a few minutes, timely care saves the life of a person before the situation gets any worse.
Proper health and safety training courses help employees learn the skills to effectively deal with workplace injuries (whether minor or major) and keep the environment calm and peaceful.
