Basic Steps in Preventing Dry Hands

Our hands are one of the most exposed parts of the body. These very important appendages are greatlyused and involved by every one of us everyday so we can survive. The absence of hand care practices will disturbingly cause some struggles like itchiness, peeling, cracking, bleeding and untenderness. All of which are related effects of dry hands.

The outer covering of our body which is the skin, holds a fair amount of water which will keep ithydrated. Essentially, the skin provides a relatively dry and semi-impermeable barrier to fluid loss. It alsoacts as a water resistant barrier so essential nutrients are absorbed by the body and are not washed out. However, constant exposure to water and air pollutants, pathogens like germs and bacteria, sun andchanging atmospheric condition, hands become dry and rough. These factors often contribute to theloss of skin's moisture. Thus, proper hydration of the skin is at stake.

To avoid dry hands from happening, if not stop the worse effects of it like swelling and redness, it is veryimportant to bear in mind some basic and very simple steps.

Moisturize after Bathing and Hand Washing:

Moisturizers contain specially mixed chemical ingredients (like emollients and lubricants) formulated to make the epidermal layer of the skin softer, smoother and more adjustable to varying conditions. There are brands that are made-up of naturally occurring lipids and various solid steroid alcohols, and there are also some that are made up from naturally derived ingredients where powerful antioxidants and vitamins are added. Over-all, these provide texture, enhance tone and most importantly, prevent hands from drying.

Avoid using drying soaps:

Wisely choose an extra creamy cleanser that contains moisturizing ingredients.

Protect your hands:

When the weather is cold outside, or even when your room is amply air-conditioned, do not forget to use hand gloves to prevent moisture to evaporate.

Stay Hydrated:

Drink lots of water (although do not go overboard by taking in more than 8 glasses a day). Observe to maintain a proper diet which includes fruits and vegetables. Their vitamins and minerals will naturally combat skin dryness.
