If you listen to your doctor, or to the generally prevailing wisdom today, its that you have to take a prescription to cure your acne. I'm here to tell you that this could not be further from the truth. You don't have to use depression-inducing, birth defect causing crazy hard-core drugs like Accutane. You do not have to slather oil-based products all over your face, or gobble pill after pill.
The truth is, it's the natural cures that can actually do the most good for you. You just got to be able to separate the fact from the crap.
Here's a few tricks I've learned:
1) Lose the Soap Now I know what you're thinkingyou don't want me to use soap? What am I supposed to clean myself with? The truth of the matter is that most soap actually ends up clogging your pores. The anti-bacteria medication that is in most of the soaps that acne sufferers will usually for a very short while, and then gradually lose their effectiveness. Non-soap based cleansers can still get the job done, without clogging up your pores.
2) Start Working Out Yeah, I didn't believe this one at first. Since when does working out have anything to do with the health of your skin? I think it must have something to do with the fact that when you sweat, you are clearing out your pores. It may also have something to do with the fact that you drink more water when you work out, and you have to go to the bathroom, which clears out the toxins in your body. Whatever the reason, it definitely works J
3) Steam This is something that I heard for a while, but really didn't believe it. It takes about 15 minutes a day to work effectively, but let me tell you, the results can be ridiculous. I went to a hotel over one vacation, and I took a steam bath for about one hour per day for three days. About 75% of my acne disappeared just in that one day. Now obviously, the vast majority of us do not have a steam room, but if you get a cheap gym membership, you can get access to one. You can also simply boil water over a stove and use a towel to direct the steam at your face. Or you can buy a device that costs about $30 simply for this purpose. Either way, Steam is high effective way to cure acne.
I learned most of these tricks in an ebook my parents bought me when I first started to develop acne. The sales page is a bit hype-y, but the ebook is responsible for most of the acne I was able to get rid of:
