Acne: How to deal with the Stress and Psychological Effects

I've been an acne sufferer since I was in 8th grade. My father had severe acne, and he still wears the battle scars. In my dad's time there weren't really any effective means of treating acne. They had the silicone kind of face mask thingies, but as he said, all you did was peal back the mask and there the acne was once again.

Acne can have a terrible psychological impact on teenagers. Many of them become depressed. They don't want to take off their shirt. Girls especially can feel like their ugle because they have pimples. Some start to lose their self-esteem and may sometimes experience the negative effect of bullying by their peers.

I'm here to tell you that all this can be gotten over. Like all forms of bullying, bullying about acne can be got over by acquiring self-confidence. Self-confidence comes only from within, but it can often be achieved by getting good at something. People often derive their confidence from the fact that they can do one or two things very well.

For example, if your kid has acne, but knows how to play chess well, program computers, and play an instrument, he has confidence at least when talking about those areas. To develop his confidence, all he needs to do is increase the areas in which he is competent. For male teens, I've found that working out increases confidence. For girls, I've found that dance, or something similar does.

Of course, getting rid of the acne itself can help a lot. I only suggest those before because many kids will expect all their problems to go away when their acne does. Which isn't true. If you or your kid has severe acne, getting rid of acne often does not cure the loss of confidence that occurred while you had it.

I was able to control my own acne through a mixture of self-discipline and willingness to go a long ways to achieve my goals. First thing you need to realize is that it is a HUGE myth that diet has nothing to do with your acne. This is just a lie propagated by the pharmaceutical companies who want to keep you using their cancer-causing chemicals. For me, I had to stop eating chips, and stop eating sugar that wasn't in fruit. Don't get me wrong, it was extremely difficult, but I never felt more healthy in my life.
