Last year I was so bogged down with work right before Christmas Eve that the DC New Years Eve parties I was going to completely slipped my mind until December 26th. Finally I could take a breath and focus on December 31st. Luckily I work for the Federal Government which means we get out of work in time to prepare for the night ahead.
I made plans to go to three parties with my husband after a nice romantic dinner at one of DC's finest restaurants. We're not the kind of couple that likes to stay out too late, and since I don't drink there would be no issue with driving. (But more about that later.) Our first stop was a special dance hosted by a social networking site called Professionals in the City. The great thing about their dance was the way it was set up. First, there was a main dance floor that played the latest dance hits. Since we both love to dance to anything - we've taken ballroom and waltz classes - it was amazing to see that this dance had separate rooms where you could actually be taught new kinds of dance such as Bollywood, Salsa, and Meringue. We had a so much fun.
Our next stop was to a DC New Years Eve party thrown at a friend's house. We told them we would only be stopping by to have a glass of champagne because we had bought tickets for a well-known multi level lounge to meet up with some of our friends.
Since this was New Year Eve in Washington DC these friends drank. And drank. Then drank some more. I just thanked God they weren't driving as we both live on the outskirts of downtown DC in a town called Alexandria.
Finally, we were all ready to go and considered our DC New Years Eve a huge success. That is until I got pulled over to take a field sobriety test and blow in a breathalyzer. I asked why they pulled me over since I don't drink and the officer replied, "Random testing ma'am." But that couldn't ruin the night. We laughed all the way home!
