Reviewing Resumes For Team Building Attributes

When corporations hire executives who will be in management or supervision departments, it is imperative to look over resumes to find someone with team building attributes and qualities. It can be frustrating for any business, small or large, to spend money advertising for a position, spend time going through the interviewing process and hiring process, and then spend more money to train that person to the company standards, only to find out that the person does not possess the necessary qualities to fulfill the job.One of the major revenue losses companies experience is turnover of employees. Many of these employees leave the business or are fired due to lack of skill, team building qualities, and professional management capabilities. When a person is hired for a supervisory or management position, the person can become overwhelmed and frustrated with the job if he has not had the training necessary to make him a qualified leader. It is beneficial to the company to specifically seek out potential employees and candidates who have a list of qualifications which will enable them to be business leaders. Many people in today's business world enter the business industry with a college degree in hand, but with little to no experience in team management and knowledge of how to problem solve quickly and efficiently. The lack of these skills in a manager or supervisor for any department can swiftly lead to a breakdown of operation and function and the company can begin to lose profit due to decreased errors and insufficient team building skills. It is important to look at resumes and search for team building skills because the business will be uncovering traits, personal work ethic, hands-on experience, and knowledge of actual application of skills. Many people who apply for jobs have the textbook knowledge of how to be a manager and to lead a team, but have had very little actual experience. Reviewing resumes for additional industry-related classes such as leadership seminars, public speaking engagements, problem-solving courses and more will assist the hiring personnel in hiring an employee who will be an asset to the business. The training process for a new manager or supervisor will run more smoothly and the new employee will be able to adjust much quicker to the company and grow into his role as a manger if he has had proper experience and training before being hired. Though it is important for a company to offer continuing education, workshops, and seminars to keep standards up to par, it is also necessary to begin with a capable and competent manager. During the resume reviewing process, a set of questions which describe potential problems in the work place will be good questions to give to the person being interviewed. These potential scenarios are a good way to discover if the person has enough knowledge and competency to be able to be an effective manager who posses good team building and problem solving skills. Taking the time to review the resumes for these qualities and to pose these scenarios to the person being interviewed can save the company a significant amount of money in the long run.
