If God is Good, Then Why Is There So Much Evil And Suffering In This World? Everyone is bound to ask this question sooner or later in life, especially when one has just experienced an injustice or tragedy for which he or she has no sensible explanation.
It puzzled me why God wasn't doing anything about the suffering around the world. He seemed to be obvious to all the prevailing evil. What was more baffling was that He allowed such suffering in the first place. I have come to understand that God doesn't resent us asking that question because He perfectly understands our restricted perception and struggles in life.
How high is the sky? It's infinite; so God's knowledge and wisdom are infinitely greater than ours. We haven't begun to scratch the bear surface of the universe. I come to the conclusion that God knows much better than us. Therefore, He knows exactly what He is doing, although it may not seem as such from our perspective and perception.
God still understands our frustration and anger over the horrendous things that had happened and are still happening in this world; and He is always trying to get us to see life from His point of view. If we don't, we will become hopelessly confused, cynical and defiant.
Two keyword - evil and suffering. Evil is a wrongdoing that brings hurt to oneself or others. Suffering is a consequence of evil. If there is no evil, there will be no suffering. God is a God of holiness and order. When we keep God's laws, peace and happiness will follow. But if we break them, unrest and suffering will be the consequences.
From biblical history, we know that Satan is the originator of evil. Suffering can only be effectively terminated when the source of all evil has been permanently destroyed. It must be noted that most of the evils on earth are committed by man. At the same time, nature reacts to man's constant abuse of the earth. So the Law of Cause and Effect is set in motion, much to our disadvantage. Yes, the world is in a terrible shape today.
Suffering is for a season but bliss is for all eternity. As far as a believer in the Lord is concerned, the time will come when we will suffer no more. Meanwhile, we just have to be patient.
