Tomorrow is Thanksgiving in the United States and Canada. It is the day that we give thanks to God, family and friends by which we have been blessed. The celebration early on was a way to give thanks for bountiful harvests, but now days we give thanks for the people and possessions in our lives. Have you thought recently about how blessed you really are? Take an account of the things you have in your life. If you are reading this right now you are either on a computer, an iPad, or a smart phone most likely. These are all things that are recent innovations.Even the stereotypical "poor" in our society have cell phones and access to the internet. Think about the heat in your home right now. We so often forget about things like this, but let it get turned off and your world will change immediately. Take an account of the relationships you have in your life. Are you married? Do you have a significant other? Do you have children that you love? These things are an amazing blessing that we so often overlook. Make every day of the year Thanksgiving, take time each day to let these people know that you love them. Once you have taken account of the material possessions you have and the relationships you are in, take the time to do something about it. I know of a family a half mile from where I sit right now that had all their kids toys, clothes, and furniture stolen. They are out of work and destitute. What can I do to help this family?I would bet $100 that within a mile of every person reading this you could find a family in a similar or maybe even worse condition. What are you going to do about it...just keep driving past them? Thanksgiving was a celebration of a bountiful harvest. The roots of Thanksgiving go back though to a time when the early settlers here were dying quicker than they could ship them over here. The people who were coming had no experience in living in the wild. Soon after arriving they would starve to death or get some terrible disease.Thanksgiving is about helping others. Change your traditional Thanksgiving day into a day where you reach out and help others.
