Aerators for Commercial Farming- an Overview

You cannot achieve high productivity in your commercial farming venture unless you invest in a good aeration system. In the building blocks of farm activities, the very first block is aeration. Actually whether it's a tilling operation or plowing and cultivation in depth or harrowing or weeding, aeration is present in all activities in some form or the other. So, what is aeration and why is it important for a commercial grade agricultural developer and farmer?

There are three aspects to the soil that you need to maintain in order to continue to derive maximum output each season. In each of these three aspects aerators play a dominant role. The first such system is the physical one. You have to maintain the soil's texture and structure. You have to ensure that compaction does not occur at all. You will have to maintain the right kind of porosity in the soil. Compaction is one of the biggest enemies of the commercial farmer. Compaction prevents the infiltration of water and air through the soil and stunts root growth. The second aspect is the chemical one. This involves the periodic application of fertilizer and lime besides pesticides and you have to ensure that the pH value of the soil is kept at the right level. The third aspect is biological. You have to keep the soil clear of all forms of harmful bacteria and fungi while ensuring that vermiculture is taken advantage of. A good system of aeration will ensure that all the above aspects are tackled by the system actively and the right condition is established in your farm that would increase its productivity.

There are several forms of aerator systems in the market and you have to discuss your needs with the reps of the manufacturers of such systems. Finally, your requirements would boil down to proper aeration, breaking up of compacted soil and the removal of weeds on a periodic basis. You would have to carry out seeding operation and the spreading of fertilizer on an as required basis. In your endeavors while runoffs should be reduced there should be better consistency of moisture in the soil.
