Is your driveway's apron elevated above your house and because off that water is pitching down hill towards you garage. Most people think because of this bad pitch there is no optionfor paving without pricey draining systems. Draining systems are exspensive but thereis another way to solve this problem without the big cost. The best part is you can do it yourself and proble only spend about 400 dolars compared to the thousands you will spend ona high priceddraining system. The first thing you want to do is go down to home depot or lows and buy3 12x12 black pvc catch basins. These catch basins are about 40 dollars each and well worth it. You will also need length of pvc pipe that is two times the size of your garage apron. This pvc pipe needs tobe the same size as theopenings on each side of the catch basin so you can attach to it on both sides. The next ting you need to get is 10 to 12bags of clean stone and a pvc end cap the same size as the pipe. This should be enough stone to fill a hole 2 foot wideand 3 feet deep. If you have fence post hole diggers it will make the hole much easier to dig.
The first thing you want to do is dig a trenchalongthe apron where your garage is. This trench must be the whole length of the apron and out about 10 feet into your grasson theoppiste side of where your walk way leads to your front door. When digging this trench you want it to be deep enough so the catch basins will sit flush to your concrete apron. You want this trench to have at least a 3 inch pitch going to where you will be digging the 2 foot wide by 3 foot deep hole. This hole will be about 10 feet from where you garage apron ends going away from the house. What you need to do next is set up the catch basins.Setone on the right corner of your garage apron, onein the middle and the last one on the left corner. The last catch basin on the left is where the pipe will extend out 10 feet and connect to thehole. The one on the right is where you use the pvc end cap to close the side off. Once all the catch basins are all conected make sure that there is pitch to the hole. Also make sure that the basins are flush to the apron and sit about a half inch below. Next connect the last catch basin to the hole with your 10 foot of pvc pipe. Fill the hole with the clean gravel and around the basins at the apron than pack with a hand tamper. Make sure you use the pvc joint glue to attach pipe to basins. Now all you need to do is hire a paving company to pave the driveway and asphalt around the catch basins you instaled to lock them in. htttp://keatorbuiltpavingandsealcoating.com
