Instead of increasing our load of anxiety, Jesus promises to make it lighter. He says in Matthew 11:28-30, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
The heavy yoke Jesus mentions in the above scripture refers to our burdens in life. And He can free us from our burdens and give us rest and peace with God. Worry is a burden God never intended us to bear. When your mind turns to anxious thoughts about the future, remember that your Heavenly father knows and He will give you what you need.
The Bible tells us in 1 Peter 5: 7, "Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you." We know it is a waste of time to worry; yet a lot of us find ourselves in this dilemma. We know we should trust God but we wonder just what He is going to do about the problems we are facing. So we start doing everything we can think of to move forward in a positive way. We need to turn to God's Word and hand over our worries and burdens to Him, completely.
We need not fear the perils around us because the Eye of the Lord is always with us. Jesus says in Matthew 6:26-27, "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?"
When concerns for our well-being lead to anxious thoughts, we can look at the birds and be assured of our value to God and of His care for us. Jesus promised to care for us everyday and we can live by faith one day at a time, and leave tomorrow safely in God's Hands. Worry belongs to unbelievers and not to Kingdom citizens. As a child of God, hand all your cares and anxieties over to Jesus and He will do a good job with them. You will be amazed!
