The fountain cup of porphyry, (formerly of Fontana and Fontana Paparelle of the four seasons for the four allegorical herms that decorate the open space of the fountain) is located in Naples in the Villa Comunale, the center of a large square. The unique alternative name is evocative of an era, very remote, in which swam in the pool groups of ducks or geese. The fountain consists of a large circular pool with a big "rock" in lava rock in the middle. The same Swiss architect provides the design of the four lions placed on a rock of volcanic rocks and holding the heavy monolith, decorated the center of the basin from a head of Medusa. Circular space around the fountain are arranged four allegorical sculptures of the seasons. In Naples, in Piazza Cavour, there is another fountain, historically known as the fountain of Paparella, located in the gardens overlooking the entrances to the subway. This second fountain less well known, derives its name from the fact that in
ancient times was home to a colony of geese. In March 2006, the Naples City Council has decided to dedicate this Tot fountain in Piazza Cavour, since it is located near the neighborhood where health Tot was born in 1898.
The Villa Comunale (formerly Royal and National) is a major historic gardens of Naples.The extensive garden, planted with oaks, pines, palms and eucalyptus trees extending over 1 km between Victory Square and Republic Square, flanked by the Riviera di Chiaia and Via Caracciolo. His first group dates back to 1697, when the Viceroy Duke of Medinacoeli planted a double row of 13 trees decorated with fountains, sending along the Riviera first idea of a walk. In 1778-80, the EEA was converted into a real garden, by the will of Ferdinand IV of Bourbon and the work of Carlo Vanvitelli, son of the famous Luigi.
