The problem comes in when the gate is simply too heavy. The motor could very easily burn out after just a couple of sessions of opening and closing the gate.
So instead of getting out of the car each time you wish to enter or leave your property, put in a gate motor and automate your gate so that you do not expose yourself to the chance of getting hijacked right outside your home. A gate motor is not hideously expensive and can save you lots of trauma.
