Why Should I Automate My Gate?

Many houses in South Africa have a driveway and a gate towards the end of it. This does keep the house a lot safer than if it did not have a gate towards the end of its driveway. The downside is that it is possible to get hijacked right at the point when you have to get out of your vehicle to open the gate.

But no fear! We now have an answer. Rather than put yourself at risk when you are forced to leave your car to open your gate, automate it by using a gate motor.

There are a number of gate motors that you can use and it will depend on how you want your gate to open which one you choose to install.

If you want your gate to open like a normal gate, that is, open inwards or outwards on hinges, you will want a swing arm gate motor. This type of gate motor will attach to the gate and, when activate, draw or push the gate open or closed.

If you want your gate to open like the majority of automated gates, that is by sliding open or closed along rails, you will want a far more standard type of gate motor. When activate, this gate motor may draw or push the gate along rails specially designed for this purpose.

In addition, you need to be sure that you get the right strength gate motor. It's okay to get a gate motor which is too strong, the only thing that will happen is that it will make use of a little more power to open a gate that it can handle. The problem comes in when the gate is simply too heavy. The motor could very easily burn out after just a couple of sessions of opening and closing the gate.

So instead of getting out of the car each time you wish to enter or leave your property, put in a gate motor and automate your gate so that you do not expose yourself to the chance of getting hijacked right outside your home. A gate motor is not hideously expensive and can save you lots of trauma.
