Chinese invented about 2000 years ago. Universally used Manual gadget for solving Arithmetic Functions. Does not require any power to operate.

Bar - Pointer.
Rods.
Upper Beads.
Lower Beads.
Each rod has one Upper bead and four Lower beads.
The abacus gets Value only when bead / beads touch the bar.
The value of one Upper bead is five.
The value of each Lower bead is one.
The minimum value in a rod is zero & The maximum value in a rod is nine.
When the Beads are moved towards the Bar, the value of Abacus increases and vice versa.
Arithmetic using Abacus
1. Numbers are represented in Abacus as Beads and positions. 2. Hence in Arithmetic
computation using abacus, numbers are converted into bead images. 3. Bead images are
registered as mental images
Arithmetic using Physical Abacus
1. Arithmetic functions are done using abacus moving beads on rods which have specific values 2. Abacus based Arithmetic functions calculations thereof enhance Concentration levels. 1. Calculations done with Abacus, using the fingers of both the hands stimulate the brain both the Right and Left Brain. 4. Right Brain is the Seat of Intelligence and the Left Brain is the store house of information and the knowledge. 5. Right Brain stimulation makes the child develop the faculties of brain such as Visualization, Imagination, Creativity and the related skills. 6. Mental Arithmetic by Image of Abacus
1. After a period of 6 9 months of vigorous practice on Arithmetic calculations using
physical Abacus, the child will be able to do Mental Arithmetic by image of Abacus.
2. Image of Abacus is nothing but Mental Abacus / imagined abacus.
3. Children do calculations mentally using mental abacus (imagined abacus). Calculation
speed increases at least FOUR-fold.
4. Mental Arithmetic by image of Abacus is done by children with high speed and accuracy
levels.
5 Extreme levels of Concentration & perfect Visualization would result in high speed and
accurate calculations.
6. Concentration and Visualization in children make them very good in their studies and
excellent in Image memory.
