Man, being a social animal, communication plays an important role in being with his society. From biology point of view, communication never points towards the meaning of language based communication. Communication in complete sense refers to the transfer of the intended message from sender to the receiver and as a result of that a response is elicited in the receiver. The response can be positive or negative.
ifferent forms of communication exist among animal and plant kingdom. Even a single celled microbe do communicate, collect some cue from the environment and respond to the cue in order to sustain in the changing ecosystem.
Visual, vocal, expressive postures, nasal and vomero-nasal etc., are some of the means by which animals communicate. The communication play a major role in most of the animals when there is threat, during parental care, during play and during mating. Communication through olfaction is highly advanced among animals. Communication through olfaction is very specialized, unique and highly target specific and focused. Pheromone based communication is yet another specialized form seen among many animals.
Most occasions, the feeling of anger or dominance is communicated by animals through vocal means with some expressive postures.
Peacock dance, honey bee whirl and musings, antler of velvet in deer, breeding plumage in birds etc are some of the communication methods of various animals. None of the animals have got any specialized language, had grammar education, dialects, nor have any degrees, but their communication is very perfect. The intent and the response to the intent are certain.
We humans have got several languages, scripts, grammars, communications courses, mass communication as a business possibility but how effective is our communication. Are we not deaf when cry of help hits our ears?. Are we sensitive and sensible to the message communicated to us by our nature?
With our great communication skills and perfection, could we stop the atrocities in nature, destruction of nature and natural resources?
All the life forms in nature except man communicate perfectly, but what about man. Man is the primitive communicator in the planet. It is not language that matter for communcation the sensitivity and concern that only makes the communication effective said Dr Ranganathan in an meeting.
