Excellent parcel delivery services from around the world help Salford Deliveries

Images of dark, dreary mills and serried rows of terraced houses are what will still spring to many people's minds when the name Salford' is mentioned to them. But the 21st century reality of the city made famous by the painter L S Lowry is far removed from its situation when it was a major industrial centre, and a cradle of the Industrial Revolution.

Today, it is better known for the state-of-the-art development of its canal basin known as Salford Quays. This nods in the direction of the area's past as a major inland port which reached its height in the 18th and 19th centuries, a time when the city was, indeed, more prominent than Manchester on the international landscape.

But Salford soon became a victim of its own success, the masses of mills and factories luring in workers from surrounding areas, and eventually leading to overcrowding and unhealthy living conditions. As the area entered the 20th century, however, its fortunes faded, and it became synonymous with urban poverty.

But the city and borough of Salford have both emerged strongly from those dark days. Having been the location of the world's first unconditionally free public library, Salford has moved on to become a major university city, with almost 20,000 students enrolled there in a typical year, and work provided for nearly 3,000 administrative staff.

The area is enjoying a new period in the spotlight, thanks to the completion of the MediaCity development along Salford Quays, which is to be the new home of a number of major BBC departments, including the sport and children's programming departments, and Radio 5Live.

Naturally, this is leading to renewed interest in the area as a location for business, and the prospect of up to 20,000 new jobs being created in the city, substantial numbers of which are expected to be open to local people, is bringing a new optimism about the city's future.

With the BBC's arrival expected to act as a springboard, many new companies are expected to choose to base themselves in Salford, and these will need dependable and efficient parcel delivery services in order to be able to compete with rivals both elsewhere in the UK and overseas. Many companies are standing ready to deliver just such an offering, and they are sure to play their part in helping Salford to capitalise on its new-found prominence in the national landscape.

Sending a parcel to Salford is easy, quick and cost-effective, thanks to the existence of a wide range of services offered by leading worldwide courier delivery specialists.
