Using of conventional purification systems in today's highly polluted world is completely ineffective. So, if you are using muslin cloth or candle filter, you cannot expect that water flowing from the faucet is effectively purified. You will be surprised if you happen to get your tap water tested. It is not only harmful micro organisms like bacteria, virus, protozoa, etc. but also new age tough contaminants like lead pesticides, chemicals, etc. that are also found. And consuming such water, you will only harbor life threatening diseases. Why take the risk when you can easily get a water purifier installed. Buying one won't burn a hole in your pocket. Imagine spending a considerable amount on the doctor's fees, medicines and even hospitalization at times. And many a water purification system is affordable. Having one installed is worth the investment of at least a decade if not a lifetime. After a decade you may opt buying a more advanced water purification system designed and developed in sync with the trends and technology of that time.

Do not buy a reverse osmosis water purification system only because you like it and you have knowledge about the working mechanism. Such a type of purifier is effective in purification in places where the total dissolved solids (TDS) content in water are high. If the water in your area is full of micro organisms and low in TDS, using reverse osmosis water purification mechanism won't serve the purifying purpose. So, how do you know that you need a reverse osmosis system? Get your tap water tested in your nearest lab. Many a distributor and manufacturer provide facilities for such a test against a meager fee. And the report does carry recommendation of the right purification system.
