There are a range of accommodation options available to travelers in Great Britain. These range from simple and economical hostels to cozy bed and breakfast retreats to standard hotels. There are also more unusual places to stay -such as farms and castles. Of course, there are a number of luxury accommodations available for the better heeled.
Most visitors to England will stay in a hotel. Hotels in England vary widely in their prices, levels of service, and the amenities offered. There are hotels located all over England, in cities, towns, and in the country. Many older or budget hotels do not offer en-suite bathrooms while the newer hotels often have all the luxuries, such as swimming pools and conference rooms. Some hotels have internet hookups and some do not. Breakfast is included in the price at some hotels and some have restaurants or bars on the premises. There are hotels both for the budget-conscious and the luxury-minded. Staying in a hotel is often the most expensive accommodation option.
The most budget-friendly options are hostels and campus dormitories. Hostels are simple, no-frills lodgings for youths and young families. They usually offer dormitory like rooms, though a few family rooms are often available. Restroom facilities are usually shared and most do not provide meals. To stay at a hostel one must be a member of the Youth Hostel Association or hold an International Hostelling Card. Campus dorms are another option for the budget minded, though they are most often available during school holidays.
Visitors to England can also choose to stay in a Bed and Breakfast, or B&B. These establishments are found all across the country. Some are in private homes while others are located in cottages, townhouses, or farmhouses in the country. All provide breakfast and some also offer dinner and/or lunch. Many do not have en-suite bathrooms. Some are very simple and others provide the height of luxury. Bed and Breakfast establishments are rated with one to five diamonds based on service and quality. They are often cheaper than hotels and provide a higher level of personal service.
Self-catering accommodations are another option, and are particularly good for those staying several days or even longer. In this arrangement the visitor rents an apartment, house, or cottage for the length of the stay. All kinds of properties are available, from tiny city flats to quaint country cottages to luxury villas. Many of the properties have playgrounds or other recreational equipment. The visitor is responsible for all meals. The price of a self-catering rental varies by the property but this is often the cheapest option, especially for families or those staying long-term.
There are also a number of other options. Visitors can rent a room on a farm and enjoy a farm stay, and even participate in the daily running of the farm if they wish. There are accommodations available in medieval castles, in converted rail cars, in old lighthouse, in renovated churches, and in many more unusual and extraordinary locales.
In short, there are places to stay in England for everyone, no matter their taste or budget.
