Is it Economical to Hire a Dumper Truck?

Few would argue that a dumper truck isn't necessarily an everyday piece of equipment. In fact it firmly sits in the specialist category when it comes to machinery. Therefore it isn't used in many industries, and even where it is employed, often it is done so sparsely.

These hulking vehicles are purposely designed for the swift removal of materials from a site. With the tipper function on-board, which provides its name, all waste can be quickly dumped wherever required. It's a convenient tool for getting the job done in double quick time, especially when moving huge quantities of earth, rubble or other hefty materials.

Due to the complexity and sheer size of the dumper truck, this machine isn't cheap to procure. However, for many businesses they are essential. So whilst an outright purchase may not be possible, particularly where smaller firms and those with only an intermittent requirement are concerned, there is always the option to hire it.

This comes with its own cost of course; after all plant hire firms aren't generally kind enough to give equipment out for free. However, this will be a massive reduction on the upfront price of buying the dumper truck outright. Some may see this as a waste, particularly for companies with tight resources, but the financial implications of hiring over buying are significantly less.

There are always alternatives of course, but when you hire a dumper truck you generally do so for the convenience they provide. You could, theoretically at least, ferry all of the earth from one place to another manually. Just get a cheap wheelbarrow and you're halfway there. But when you're looking at tonnes of material, this just isn't possible. You need the correct equipment for the job, which may just be the dumper truck.

Failure to use the proper machinery can result in adding time or financial costs elsewhere. What you save in one area is often spent in another. Where a dumper truck is concerned, of there is a genuine need for it in the first instance then, more often than not, you should be looking to procure one. Not every company has tens of thousands of pounds in disposable cash available to buy one, so alternative arrangements need to be made.

Not all plant hire companies will have a dumper truck readily available. Therefore if you're looking for one of a particular size in your area, it may be necessary to call a few companies. If nothing else this will give you the opportunity to gauge the price and whether or not you're happy to use a particular firm. When you do choose to hire equipment and are likely to do so again in the near future, it's always worth asking about any trade discounts or whether they offer any loyalty deals - even if it's just priority rental in the future, it can be hugely beneficial.

You can also choose to hire the dumper truck for the entire duration of a particular project. Whether it's a few hours or a couple of weeks, you can ensure that it's on site and ready for usage as and when you require it. If faults develop during this time, the hiring company will often provide insurance which means that it can be fixed quickly, or even replaced, allowing for an inexpensive and swift return to work. Invariably, this wouldn't be the case if you owned the machinery.

So is it economical to hire a dumper truck? Well, in simple terms, yes it is. There is a cost involved and you will have to fuel the vehicle, but when compared to the price of buying it, this is merely a drop in the ocean. Plus you'll have the opportunity to complete tasks promptly, which saves on man hours too.
