Seven Uses for Domestic Skip Hire?
Seven Uses for Domestic Skip Hire?

Whilst the hiring of a skip may be seen by some as the exclusive domain of the building trade, there are many situations in which homeowners can benefit hugely from this popular form of waste management. In this article we'll explore seven of the potential reasons behind domestic hire and how it could benefit you.

House Clearance

Whether it's your own home or your performing a clearance for somebody else, the only inevitability is that there will be a fair amount of wastage. In the case of a wholesale "out with the old, in with the new" there can be hundreds of black bags worth of waste piling up with no place to go.

Carpets, kitchen units and old furniture can take a significant amount of shifting. So rather than taking it all offsite immediately, why not take advantage of skip hire? Once the skip is full, you can have it collected and replaced if necessary. With a house clearance the amount of time that work will take is often highly variable, so the ability to have a skip there throughout the entire duration can prove hugely beneficial.

De-cluttering

If you've finally reached the end of your tether with the clutter that you've accumulated around the house, then hiring a skip may provide you with the impetus needed to get on rid yourself of this rubbish. Whether it's clogging up your spare room, loft space or has taken over all rooms of your house, having a surplus of unwanted contents can prove irritating at best and hazardous at worst.

Regardless of how much clutter you think you may have, there should be a skip to suit your needs. From the very small (some can be 2 cubic yards) to the enormous (12 cubic yards and larger sizes are available) you shouldn't come up short if you choose a reputable hire firm.

Garage refitting

If you're changing the purpose of your garage, for instance you may be looking to park your car in it overnight but it's currently used for storage, there's likely to be a fair amount of work involved and waste produced. Invariably this all has to go somewhere, so why not straight into a skip?

Building work

Sometimes even the most innocuous building work can generate huge amounts of waste. Whether accumulating rubble, discarded packaging or earth, it's all collateral material that needs to be properly disposed of. Failure to do so effectively and immediately can cause danger to those working on the site can slow down the process markedly.

Therefore having a skip neatly positioned on your driveway, an adjacent road or somewhere else on your property can remove this issue entirely. As and when waste is accumulated you can hurl it into your bulky container and forget about it. Because they are designed for general waste, almost anything can be thrown out too.

Gardening work

If you're doing some extensive landscaping or need to carry out some extensive topiary then there's a good chance that you will soon be up to your neck in trimmings and other such waste. Some of this could be composted or taken to a nearby tip equipped to deal with gardening waste, but if you're going to be doing a lot of work and the build up is reasonably sizeable, a skip may be a better solution.

Moving home

As everybody is at pains to remind you, moving home is the most stressful experience you can endure. With all of the logistics involved and worry of whether all your belongings are going to get to your new house safely, it isn't generally a lot of fun. Worse still is the fact that you won't always be able to take everything with you. Rather than wasting time separating all your belongings and then taking the stuff that isn't needed elsewhere, just throw it straight into a skip.

Damage repairs

If your property has been damaged by fire, flooding or strong winds, then there is likely to be a fair amount of materials that are rendered unusable and need to be gotten rid of. This may be masonry and tiles, or ruined carpets and furniture. In this particular situation, speed is of the essence so that you can get on and rebuild your home and life. Therefore having a skip in to which everything can be thrown in to can be a huge convenience that can help you through a difficult time.
