With the snow already disappearing, spring seems to be right around the corner. By mid-April, warmer weather will be in full swing, and what will you be wearing for sunglasses? Although that pair of designer sunglasses you purchased two years ago may suffice, will you be in style?
If you look at celebrities as trend barometers, the latest look for women foregoes the frills of rhinestones, bright-colored frames, and other embellishments that have been popular for the past decade. Instead of those large, oversized sunglasses, go for something retro and simple and even unisex.
As you can see from the return of wayfarer shades from three years ago, 80s designer sunglasses are back, but with a modern touch. Wayfarers are still in, and for 2011, the similar Clubmaster style by Ray-Ban appears to be a new wardrobe staple. Although both wayfarer and Clubmaster styles use a similar combination of rounded and sharp edges, Clubmaster sunglasses have a half-rim look and, in terms of flattering a face shape, are better for those with oval or angular visages. Wayfarers, on the other hand, look good on just about anyone. For either trend, consider a classic solid black look, or add a touch of color through the frame.
Aviator sunglasses are making a similar comeback, but unlike styles from the past two years, less is essentially more for women's aviator sunglasses. The simple teardrop-shaped lenses should be a solid color gradient shades are out. Black is preferred. Similarly, simple metal is best for the frame. The colored plastic frames used by many brands of designer sunglasses now appear too busy and too thick.
Oversized sunglasses, however, are not out of style yet. But, like other looks for women in 2011, simple and classic is far trendier than flashy. Those pink frames with rhinestones and purple gradient lenses are now too bright. Although the gradient look still holds for this style, go with neutral shades black or brown.
Men may want to update their look for 2011, as well. Classic styles, in general, are in for men, but some variation is appropriate for 2011. "Variation," however, does not mean going overboard with the rhinestones and colors. Instead, mirrored lenses are the look for this year. No matter if wayfarer, Clubmaster, or aviator shaped designed sunglasses look better with your face shape, mirrored lenses make your look up to date. A hint of color isn't bad, however, and if you want to add more than black and silver to your selection of eyewear, consider going with a pair of wayfarers.
