Fans of MMA Philippines will tell you that the filipino mma fighters have been not only winning, but routing the opposoition in regional tilts, such as ESPN's Martial Kombat in singapore, Legend FC in HK, and gorilla wars in saipan and Guam.
Edduard Folayang has not lost a single match in Singapore, zipping thrrough Croatians, Canadians, south Africans, Chinese and Mongolian wrestlers, you name it Folayang has defeated them all
Then there is Belingon a stablemate of folayang who has done the same thing -plus a few wins in Legend FC as well. MArk eddiva hasn't done bad for himself, winning his match against HK sstalwart, alex lee.
Then there is the case of 40 plus Angelito ":the saint?" manguray who blasted his opponent in one round also in martyial combat (the philippines hold the best record in that tournament with 8 wins -1 loss in the men's divission)
Locally the URCC (Universal Reality Combat CHampionship) has given filipino fighters a grand stage to play out their home grown skills to the MMA fans in the Philippines, and many foreigners have come to ply thier trade in this tournament, the most succesful invaders have been the mongolians, notaably Zhang tie Quan , who annexed the middleweight crown form Baduria, however most filipinos will tell you that there are probaly only four to five fighters in that division as the filipinos dont make 'em that big
So where were we? -yes has MMA in the Philippines blossomed into a promising sport that will deliver the gooods for the country? me sayeth yes. When dana White, finally decides to open the UFC to the small men of the world, you will find it dominated by the most exciting pint-sized juggernauts MMA has ever seen. It's happened in boxig, where most of the champions are NOT form the US, Europeor Canada - they are from Asia and Mexico, proof that the pound for pound the small men can not only compete but domiante the lower divisions.
These are exciting times for Asian MMA , i cant wait to see the next Manny PAcquiao come out swinging foe MMA
