If you are trying to remove smells from clothing, simply put 1/2 to 1 cup of vinegar in the laundry and have it run the normal cycle. This will remove most odors, from the smell of gasoline, to the odor from smoke.

In order to remove a smell from a room or house, simply put vinegar in a bowl, and leave it in the room for about 24 hours. (Note: This works well for removing paint smells, but takes time)

To remove the smell from furniture or other fabrics such as luggage or clothing, take a spray bottle, put a teaspoon of baking soda, a half cup of vinegar, and a full cup of water, mix it, then mist it over the fabrics.

A good quick combatant for pet odors is to mix half water and half vinegar in a spray bottle, then mist it over your carpets. This neutralizes the odor, however, it does leave the smell of vinegar for a while.

There are cheap alternatives to vinegar for removing odors from the room that have all of the benefits of vinegar, without any of the cons. Many odor removing sprays and devices leave a subtle pleasant scent, while completely removing the odors, instead of masking them.
