Technological innovations recognised in the Nissan Leaf

The Leaf, Nissan's Electric Vehicle was released in Japan and the USA last year, it is due to go on sale here in the UK this quarter. The Nissan Leaf is a five door family hatchback powered by batteries; it has a range of 73 miles and has a combined fuel consumption figure of 99 miles per gallon.

Since its unveiling the Leaf has won many awards, at the 2010 Washington Auto Show, the Leaf was given the 2010 Green Car Vision Award by the Green Car Journal (GCJ). The Leaf was voted the 2011 European Car of the Year and the 2011 Eco-Friendly Car of the Year by Cars.com. Like the Nissan Cube in Cardiff the Leaf has been accepted well by the media and industry pundits.

The most recent award was announced today by Nissan, AT&T, NTT DOCOMO and Telenor Connexion. The Nissan LEAF system which is marketed as Nissan Connect powered by CARWINGS has been awarded the Global Mobile Awards 2011 prize for the "Best Mobile Innovation for Automotive and Transport" at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. This "Information and Communication Technology system (ICT) for electric vehicles" won the award that recognises excellence and innovation in mobile communications.The most recent award was announced today by Nissan, AT&T, NTT DOCOMO and Telenor Connexion. With the ICT system in the Leaf drives are able to be constantly connected to the data and information they need to optimise their EV experience. Designed specifically for the Electric Leaf it has EV usage history and battery conditions. The system can be accessed by a dedicated website for EV owners, via mobile phones, smart phones and computers to manage energy usage.
