Create A Beautiful Musical Oasis In Your Yard Or Garden With Decorative Wind Chimes

Ancient Chinese Buddhists believed that wind chimes could drive away evil spirits from their temples and invite good spirits to linger. Perhaps, they were actually onto something as even today people find the look and sound of decorative wind chimes makes them feel more at peace and lightens their hearts.

There are decorative wind chimes designs both for indoor and outdoor use. While those designed for indoor use are often more delicate looking and fragile, there are some outdoor chimes that are delicate and beautiful enough to grace both the inside and outside of a home.

Wind chimes are made from a variety of materials such as metal including brass, copper, and stainless steel, bamboo, shells, glass and even PVC pipe. There are wind activated chimes and solar activated chimes. Some even have batteries that allow them to light up during the night. Each different material produces a different sound and there are even some chimes that have been specifically designed to play part of a recognizable tune.

The most standard types of chimes, consists of either solid or hollow metal or wood pipe cut into different lengths and hung by an O ring. When the wind blows these pieces of metal or wood bang against one another producing a musical sound. While small around metal pipes or glass chimes give on a gay tinkling sound, longer and larger metal pipes give deeper bell like tones. Bamboo chimes on the other hand sound like a bubbling brook.

Newer styles of decorative wind chimes don't just add music to your home or garden but, also add a touch of beauty or whimsy. There are chimes featuring butterflies, dragon flies, dancing fairies, humming birds and other unique designs that are as restful to gaze upon as they are to listen too. Solar decorative wind chimes are activated not by the wind but, by the sun. The more direct the sunlight upon the chime the more they move and the more music they produce. Meaning you can fill the air with song even on a completely windless day.

The best things about these unique outdoor decorations is that you can place them almost anywhere. Indoors they can be placed in a kitchen or hallway window or even on a desk. Outdoors, they can be hung from the roof of your porch or deck, be suspended from a tree, or even hung from a stake in your garden.

While some people may only have one set of decorative wind chimes, other people collect them and use them to create a sparkling musical oasis in their garden or yard. As strange as it may seem, the different shapes and sizes don't seem to compete with one another but, blend together in a musical concert that everyone seems to enjoy.

While decorative wind chimes may not chase evil spirits away, there is no doubt that they have the power to chase the blues away, put a smile on your face, and make you think of warm summer days and the taste of lemonade regardless of what time of year it may be.
