Kinect Causing Red Ring Of Death?
Kinect Causing Red Ring Of Death?

Over the past couple of months, rumours have been circulating claiming the Kinect will cause Xbox 360s to get the infamous Red Ring On Xbox. Microsoft has now responded to these allegations and, surprise surprise, they claim there's no link.

Speaking to BBC, this is what Microsoft had to say:

"There is no correlation between the three flashing red lights error and Kinect. Any new instances of the three flashing red lights error are merely coincidental."

Coincidence or not, it certainly is sad that so many 360 consoles are still breaking down long after the Red of Ring of Death problems have been researched and solutions, causes and preventions tried.

Microsoft though has not officially commented on the RROD issues with some early Xbox 360s. Despite all these latest rumours and questions, Microsoft's Kinect has been extremely popular. Microsoft launched its revolutionary controller-less' accessory for the Xbox Worldwide in December. The Kinect sensor is a device that has an RGB camera, depth sensor and multi-array microphone which runs proprietary software. This system allows for full-body 3D motion capture, facial recognition, and even voice recognition. Owners are able to interact with games using their body. Away from the Game itself, users can Pause TV and fast forward movies using a mix of hand movements and voice control.

Like all Gaming consoles, the Xbox 360s can fail or inherit faults and there doesn't always have to be a reason outside of known hardware issues.

So it does have to be asked how connecting a camera can influence the hardware performance inside the consoles.

But there certainly have been many apparent cases of the Red Ring On Xbox plauging Xbox 360 owners since recently purchasing a Kinect Motion Controller.

Personally, I dont know what to believe on this one, but as the saying goes there is no smoke without fire, or can it be that Gamers are looking for a reason to blame for their Red Ring Of death?

So is Kinect giving old Xbox 360 consoles the 3 Red Lights? It's no secret that the Xbox 360 has had its fair share of problems in the past. The Red Ring on Xbox, which was caused by system overheating issues forced the console to shutdown and display the red error lights, and then being named or known from that point forward as The Red Rings of Death. Fast forwarding to the present day and the launch of Kinect, many older model Xbox 360 owners, who had previously always managed to not have the 3 Red Rings, are now starting to seriously question the compatibility between the modern-day Kinect consoles and the older consoles. These new claims have come from Gamers using these older' Xbox consoles without any problems, and who have since purchased a Kinect, and are now getting the infamous Red Ring Of death.

When researching this topic on Google, there is now quite an alarming and uprising amount of questions in Forums etc, looking for help in the matter.

Questions and / or topics I have come across so far include;

"It froze up while calibrating the Kinect. When I shut it down and turned it back on the RRoD reared its ugly head" wrote one poster. Another forum post contained:

"It wasn't until I got my kinect that I had problems. right after getting it, worked fine. Day one of getting it, worked fine, day two, constant freezing and eventual RRoD. My Xbox NEVER had froze or anything before this."

However, it still does remain unresolved weather this problem is related to the new Kinect motion camera, or if these older consoles have simply gone the distance as it were.
